So. To say that I'm excited for this event at St. Victor School coming up on May 6th is a bit of an understatement. There's so much good stuff going on here, but I'll highlight a couple of the best parts of this event. First, it's a celebration of young authors and a showcase of their writing. Acknowledging a child's writing process and embracing their final product, their very own story, is so empowering for budding young writers! Second, the opportunity for children to come to a young author event and listen to a presentation by their literary hero like Raina Telgemeier or Gene Luen Yang would be truly inspirational.
Friends, there's something for everyone at this event including author presentations, book sales and signings, children's workshops, and resources for teachers and parents. I also have a small contributing role - a workshop promoting family writing activities. Want to know how you can develop writing skills with a magazine and some fortune cookies? Come on out! This event is free. Jaime

I really enjoyed spending some time yesterday evening with these bright students from Santa Clara University's Future Teacher's Project (FTP). It's hard to imagine that just a short while ago (give or take 20 years), I too was sitting in that seat, a student in Dr. Urdan's seminar! Thank you, FTP, for having me visit and share my experiences with you. Being an educator is rewarding, whether as a classroom teacher or as a parent workshop presenter. I wish you the best in your endeavors as you prepare for the teaching profession. Your future students are so lucky to have you teach and inspire them to reach their full potential! Jaime P.S. What do you think? Future Broncos? Mobiles, Roto-copters, push cars, balancing acts, spinning tubes and pendulums...what do they all have in common? They were all featured at the Santa Clara County Office of Education's Families Learning Together Spring STEAM event. Partly learning and mostly playing, children and their families discovered and explored Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math concepts. With free breakfast, free lunch, and a resource fair with lots of give-aways, the event was a big hit! Be sure to look for the next Families Learning Together event in the Fall.
Here are a few snapshots from the event. |
