While most people move away from High School to College, and eventually follow their dream job or the love of their life to different cities or states, I have been very fortunate to stay close to home. I am one of the few who grew up, got a job, got married and now live just mere miles away from my childhood home. And this past October, I had the privilege and honor to present a reading workshop for parents at Milpitas Christian School, a local school that is near and dear to my heart. Why? Well, yours truly was a preschool and kindergarten student at Milpitas Christian School once upon a time! Here is my Kindergarten class photo. Can you guess which one I am? Even more more mind-blowing is that my own daughter attended Milpitas Christian School for her TK year a few years back. Here she is in her school uniforms. Isn't she a cutie? So when the opportunity came up for me to present a reading workshop for parents at Milpitas Christian School, I was more than happy to return, not as an alumna, not as a MCS parent, but as an education consultant. Here are some pics of me in action! Being an education consultant, especially in the area of engaging families with literacy, has been such a blast! Inasmuch as I have received and experienced a loving and faith-centered upbringing, a quality education and a dynamic teaching career, I want to share strategies and best practices for supporting literacy development at home with other parents.
Reading is not just gleaning information from a page; it is a means of connecting with your child and giving them the tools to dream dreams. Writing is not just filling up words on a page; it is a means of validating your child and empowering them to express their thoughts and hopes. Parents, will you get involved with your child's learning and encourage literacy at home? Because one day, they will have children of their own and everything that you have done, all the time you have invested, every intent, every gesture, indeed, every prayer that you have made on their behalf will come full circle. Jaime P.S. Stay tuned for upcoming workshop announcements!
